Welcome to the Information page.

Permits: You will need 3 different permits for your hike if you plan on a thru hike of the Pacific Crest Trail.
#1First is a thru hike permit. Click and get it.
#2Next is a California ampfire Permit. Click and get it.
#3 You will need a Canada Permit

Click the above links, print the permit, then hit your back button to come back. These are the basic permits required to complete a thru hike but,... if you also want to do Whitney along the way (and you so should!) then read this. Straight from the pcta.org website:

The U.S. Forest Service has implemented a $15 reservation fee to climb Mt. Whitney, exit and re-enter the Whitney Portal on the east side. Plan to exit and re-enter within 48 hours. Reservations for Mt. Whitney must be received at least 60 DAYS prior to the expected date of entry into the Mt. Whitney zone. Requests received less than 60 days in advance will be returned. If you would like to climb Mt. Whitney, include the $15 fee (per person) along with your permit request, making sure that you do so at least 60 days in advance.

Gear:This is a much debated topic that really boils down to what works for you. I will share my secrets with you just ask, and I have a detailed list under the gear tab over there to the left so go take a look, or visit these links I have found. Please report busted links.
    A Long Summer's Walk(2000)
    Daves Ultralight Gear (2001)
    Scott's Gear List(2002)
    Some random list(2003)
    Kevin Clayton's gear(200?)

And the list could go on and on and on and,... you get the idea. If your considering all these options and you've just finished posting all your old gear on ebay then, good. Your ready for change. There are some simple little rules to think about when you are picking out gear.

It should do more than one thing.
      It should be light.

That's it. Everything else is really just choice. If you are wealthy, you might buy all new. If your not you might make it yourself. If you can't live with out it, you'll carry it the whole way! If your a gadget person, you'll need batteries. If ultralight is more your style then you'll borrow from others. Just remember, you pack it in, you WILL pack it out and leave no trace that you were ever there.

    More to come soon.
